World Leader seeks highly qualified candidate for the position of Implant/Audiology Specialist�Italy

Our Client, with World Headquarters located in USA and European offices in France and Belgium, has developed and manufactures a middle ear implant. This device compensates for auditory deficits in individuals with moderately severe to severe hearing impairment via direct mechanical stimulation of the middle ear ossicles. This new technology involves surgical implantation of internal components by an ear surgeon, using audiometric assessment; fitting and follow up performed by an audiologist.

The implant was launched in Europe 5 years ago with a semi-implantable model. Currently clinical trials are underway to support the introduction of a fully implantable model in Europe in 2006.The initial response from the market has been very favorable, and we are now seeking to add a highly qualified candidate for the position of Implant/Audiology Specialist�Italy to the existing team. The individual will initially cover the Italian market and subsequently may assume responsibilities for other local regions. The position will report to the Director of Sales and Marketing, situated in the United States.

The main function of the Implant Specialist�Italy will be to generate the purchase of the implant by hospitals and clinics in the region and to provide technical support when needed. In order to realize this, the candidate will need to combine Surgical and Audiological activities.

Surgical Activities:

The candidate will inform implanting centers about the device, and in particular the issues related to the implantation and surgery. He/she will work with surgical centers and surgeons that have been identified as potential centers where the device can be implanted. The candidate will assess the capabilities of the center (i.e. staff, equipment and expertise) and train the surgeon and his/her staff in all related activities. The candidate will be expected to understand all matters related to the surgery and to be present during the initial surgeries providing advice and relevant information. The candidate will also visit General Ear, Nose & Throat physicians, who provide patient referrals to ENT surgeons.

Audiological Activities:

The individual will be an active participant in the process of activating the implant in operated patients. He/she will assist the surgical centers to access qualified patients by enlisting the support of audiologists and hearing aid dealers. The Product Specialist will provide the necessary information to audiologists and hearing aid dealers for the adjustment of the signal processor of the implant to match the hearing impairment amplification requirements of the patient with the implant. The candidate will also communicate with the various associations for the hearing impaired, and maintain direct contact with operated patients, in order to encourage other potential patients to pursue the implantation of the unit.

Job Requirements:

• 3 to 5 years of medical device selling experience, preferably active implants.
• Experience in clinical audiology and (preferably) hearing aid fitting
• Familiarity with operations in ENT clinics and audiology or hearing aid dispenser offices, ability to understand the needs and preferences of these Otologics� customers
• Comfortable with public speaking (giving presentations at ENT or audiology conferences)
• Fully fluent in English and in Italian, both written and oral
• Strong communication skills; enjoys teaching and training
• Travel requirements: 50 to 75% of the time
