Press Release:
Biotech from Saxony-Anhalt in America
Halle (Saale) – 05.18.2009. The state of Saxony-Anhalt will participate in the world’s largest biotechnology fair, BIO International, in Atlanta, GA, USA this year.
From the 18th to the 21st of May, 2009 the state will promote new technologies from the medicinal and green biotechnology fields, with it’s own presentation within the common German booth. The trade-show appearance is a result of a collaborative effort with the Saxony-Anhalt investment and marketing corporation mbH (Investitions- und Marketinggesellschaft Sachsen-Anhalt mbH). “We are pleased that the fair’s organizers have again invited a company, namely the novosom corporation from Halle, to present and discuss its technology” commented Dr. Jens Katzek, Managing Director of BIO Middle Germany (BIO Mitteldeutschland), on the participation of the Halle-based Biotech Company novosom.
“For example, the KeyNeurotek Pharmaceuticals Corporation from Magdeburg is represented at our booth. The corporation only recently caused a sensation by raising 8.2 million Euros in new money and thereby finding itself set on a course of expansion”, added Katzek. KeyNeurotek specializes in the development of medicines for brain related illnesses, such as stroke.
Additional exhibitors in the common booth, which is being used as a starting point for numerous contacts and conversations with potential business partners from foreign countries, also include the Marketing Initiative Green Gate Gatersleben, which communicates to the public the strengths of plant biotechnologies from Saxony-Anhalt. In addition, the TGZ Halle Technology and New Business Center, Limited Company (TGZ Halle Technologie- und Gründerzentrum GmbH) and Scil Proteins, Limited Company (Scil Proteins GmbH ) are also represented at the fair.
“Over the past few years the state government has made considerable efforts to establish a capable research and industry cluster in the field of biotechnology” emphasized Saxony-Anhalt’s Commerce Secretary Dr. Reiner Haseloff. The result is a superbly connected research community and well developed infrastructure which satisfies international requirements. Haseloff: “We attach great importance to the field of biotechnology. Another example of this is state’s extensive promotion of the Chemical-Biotechnological Process Center CBP (Chemisch-Biotechnologische Prozesszentrum CBP) at the chemical location Leuna. There they are researching how, using biotechnology, renewable raw materials can be increasingly employed in industrial production.
