MIT Diabetes Device Monitors Glucose With Light

At Sibaya we are strong supporters of diabetes research -especially Type 1 (scroll all the way down bottom right).

MIT has done some great work in this area and has now come up with a device that can monitor glucose with light, potentially avoiding the several times a day that diabetics need to draw blood.

By scanning a users arm or finger with near-infrared light, the device frees users from the necessity of drawing blood, a daily routine for most type 1 diabetes patients. The laptop-size machine is the result of 15 years of research at the MIT Spectroscopy Lab. It employs Raman spectroscopy, which can determine chemical compounds based on their molecular vibration.
